Coffee Enema: Tips, Tricks & Reason’s Why!

I have to be honest, the first time I heard about coffee enemas I was not the least bit intrigued! I enjoy a good morning coffee like most, but the idea of “butt” coffee didn’t sound very delightful. After the finding of a cancerous mass on my liver and a CT scan saying I was constipated, I decided it was time to add this to my healthy living arsenal. This morning coffee lover is now hooked! Psssst – SECRET -When I go on vacation I actually miss my enemas and can’t wait to get home to do them! I feel so good afterwards and I consider it my “God time” because during the enema I listen to sermons from Joseph Prince on healing. Currently I perform them 3 times a week.

Coffee beans have compounds that stimulate the enzyme glutathione S-transferase. This enzyme opens up the bile ducts in the liver and excretes toxins. Other compounds in coffee cause dilation of blood vessels which increases the blood filtering through the liver. Knowing “WHY” gives me a desire to do healthy things. Some of the benefits include:

  • Detoxifies the Liver and reduces overall toxic load in the body
  • Helps with constipation and cleans out your colon
  • Boosts energy
  • Increases your Immune System

It was so easy to get started with this practice. I do them 3x a week which is what my Naturopath recommended. Below are the ingredients you need to get started:

STEPS

First you want to do a water enema to clean out your bowels as much as possible so you will be able to hold the coffee.

  1. Heat up 4 cups of filtered water to warm in a pot on the stove. You can add some Himalayan salt if you wish.
  2. While the water is heating up lay down some old towels and pillow on your bathroom floor very close to the toilet.
  3. Set up the enema bucket on top of a sink or tub so gravity will be able to work to get the water to you. Make sure the hose is clamped tightly.
  4. When your water is warm pour it into the enema bucket. (TIP: Do not use HOT water or you will burn yourself! If you heated it too much, throw in some ice cubes as long as they are made from filtered water)
  5. You will want to unclamp the hose to get the air out of the line until water comes out then clamp it again.
  6. Take a piece of toilet paper and add some coconut oil and liberally apply it to your bottom. You can also add some to the tip of the enema.
  7. Lay on your right side and insert the enema tip into your anus about 3 inches. If you feel any resistance adjust the angle until it slides in easily.
  8. Release the clamp slowly to begin. Your goal is to empty half of the bucket. TIP: If you feel any discomfort you can stop by clamping the tubing and massage your stomach.
  9. Once you have half of the bucket emptied you can sit on the toilet.
  10. When finished, start again and finish the rest of the water. TIP: When you notice air starts to get in the line hold the bucket up higher and tip it to get it all out. When there is air at the top and the bucket is empty I will put the bucket back on the tub and hold the tube and keep feeding it up to get as much out as I can.
  11. This time you will try to hold the water for 5 minutes. If you are constipated you probably won’t be able to and that is okay. Just hold it as long as you can then sit on the toilet.
  12. Now it’s time to make the coffee. Heat 4 cups of filtered water and start out with 1-2 Tablespoons of the organic enema coffee. (Eventually you can work up to 3 Tablespoons). Bring it to a boil then let it boil for 5 minutes.
  13. Pull it from the stove and let it sit in the pan for 15 minutes.
  14. Now you will need your quart mason jar and strainer. Pour the coffee into the mason jar. I add filtered water ice cubes to cool it down quicker.
  15. Once it’s the right temperature you are ready to begin! Start with step 4 above. Remember to feed the line so there is no air before you begin.
  16. With the coffee I find it better to use half the bucket at a time, but you can use the whole bucket if you prefer to. The goal is to hold it for a full 15 minutes. I will be honest, many times I cannot, so if I split it in 2 doses I do better!! My struggle is I metabolize coffee very quickly per my nutritional genome test. TIP: Do not give up!! It took me a while to be able to hold it for even 5 minutes!! Some days are better than others but I always feel great afterwards regardless of how long I could hold it.

A FEW OTHER NOTES

  • Please be sure to do these on an empty stomach. Drinking water and taking supplements is fine but you don’t want to have any food.
  • The enemas are best to do in the morning because of the caffeine content.
  • Make sure you are well hydrated and also be sure to get plenty of electrolytes as coffee enemas can be dehydrating. Here is my favorite electrolyte brand – Ulta Replenisher. It doesn’t contain any sugar and it’s yummy!
  • One trick you can try is to lie on the left side instead of the right. Sometimes I will do half the bucket on the left and the other half on the right side.
  • Every once in a while the coffee won’t go down the hose. when this happens I found that holding it higher in the air will do the trick. Once it starts coming out then I put it back on the tub or sink.
  • If you are running short on time you can forego the water enema and just do the coffee enema. The water enema does help to really clean you out first so it’s best to try to do that first whenever you are able.
